Signs point to QB Drew Stanton leaving Lions after 2010

It seems the writing is on the wall for Lions quarterback Drew Stanton. Obviously, Stanton has no shot at supplanting Matthew Stafford as the starting quarterback. And with the team signing backup Shaun Hill to a one-year extension earlier this week, it's unlikely he'll ever climb above No. 3 without Stafford or Hill becoming injured.

Logan Mankins still waiting

The standoff continues. A month after Patriots guard Logan Mankins went public about his contract-related frustration with the Patriots, the two parties have not communicated. It is still not clear whether the Pro Bowler will show up for preseason camp on July 28 with his teammates. Mankins skipped all of the organized team activities and minicamp because he believes the Patriots did not fulfill a promise to sign him to a suitable long-term extension. �There�s nothing that�s happened. We haven�t heard from them,� Mankins� agent, Frank Bauer, told the Herald last night. �Everyone in the NFL is on vacation. We just have to see what happens.�

Pete Carroll's Seahawks were interested in Haynesworth

When it appeared more likely that the Redskins would attempt to get rid of Albert Haynesworth before next season, the Seattle Seahawks were often mentioned as a potential destination. Turns out the Seahawks were actively researching Haynesworth to see whether they wanted to add the lineman. "We started the process, because we thought maybe they weren't gonna be able to come to a deal and they were gonna make him available," Carroll said Thursday on the LaVar and Dukes Show. "But it didn't work out that way." Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio latched onto Carroll's admission of interest, pointing out that this could be a violation of the league's anti-tampering policy. The St. Louis Rams and quarterback Sam Bradford's representatives are scheduled to meet Friday in St. Louis, according to a league source. It is thought to be their first face-to-face meeting since the Rams selected Bradford with the No. 1 overall pick. The two sides spoke before the draft, but could not complete a deal and tabled talks. Whenever Bradford signs -- and nobody expects him to miss much, if any, training camp -- the deal will include the most guaranteed money in an NFL contract.

Rosenhaus: T.O. unlikely to be headed to Ravens

Free-agent wide receiver Terrell Owens isn't expected to join the Ravens this season, agent Drew Rosenhaus said on ESPN's NFL Live on Friday. "The Ravens are not one of the teams that I would bank on at this time, nor are we having any discussions with them," Rosenhaus said. "I wouldn't bank on seeing Terrell in a Ravens uniform." The Ravens appear set at wide receiver with Anquan Boldin, Derrick Mason, Donte' Stallworth, Mark Clayton and rookie David Reed.

Pierce: Giants' Coughlin on hot seat

Antonio Pierce no longer has a future with the Giants. The linebacker thinks head coach Tom Coughlin might not have much of one, either. "He's on the hot seat," Pierce said of Coughlin during an interview with NFL Network. "I think everybody in New York is on the hot seat.

Shaun Ellis wonders if he has sacked his last quarterback for the Jets. The 32-year-old defensive end, the team's longest-tenured player, is uncertain about his future with the Jets after asking for and being denied a contract extension. He told The Associated Press on Thursday that he's unsure if he'll even be with the team when the season begins in four months. "I don't know," Ellis said. "I think so. Well, I hope so.
