 | Donovan McNabb should be on Minnesota Vikings' radar |
Bob Sansevere The Philadelphia Eagles finally are admitting they'd trade Donovan McNabb.
Actually, it was Eagles coach Andy Reid, who told reporters during the NFL owners meetings, "I'd say I'm listening. I'm not saying I'm doing anything. I'm keeping my ears open, which we do on every player."
There's talk about the St. Louis Rams and Oakland Raiders pursuing McNabb.
There should be talk about the Vikings doing it, too — depending on the outcome of a conversation they need to have with Brett Favre.
Unless he already has told them that, yeah, he's coming back and they're not sharing that tidbit with us, the Vikings have to get Favre on the horn and tell him: "Look, we gotta know. You don't have to report until after we break camp in Mankato. But we gotta know right now."
If Favre waffles and can't give an answer, they should jump into the bidding for McNabb.
Offer the Eagles a second-round draft pick and their choice of Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels. And that should do it. If it doesn't, Brad Childress and Reid are buddies who take vacations together, so they can work something out.
The Vikings' window of opportunity will be open for only so long, and they need a veteran quarterback to keep the window from slamming shut in 2010.
McNabb doesn't have that Favre charisma, but he still can play the game. And he could play another three to five years after 2010, which is three to five years more than the Vikings would get out of Favre.
